Description
The latest version of the now classic “Swingblade” where you can not only switch between gut opener and normal knife blade, but also disassemble the knife without tools to allow for easier cleaning and better hygiene. The holster is made of Kydex och may look a little boring, but it really holds the knife in place while still allowing to both draw and reinsert the knife without using both hands. The holster belt loop is open in the lower end and makes it possible to hand/remove the holster without removing your belt. An added benfit of this holster is that you insert the knife regardless if you have the gut opener or knife blade out.
The built in gut opener that made the Swedblade so popular is just as sharp as always and the button to control the switching of blade remains in the same place as before and is not affected by the field strip option on this new G4 version. The blade is as always with EKA made of Swedish Sandvik steel (stainless 12c27). The edge is ground in a traditional way for hunting knives with a 10 mm primary edge meeting the secondary edge which is on 20 degrees angle, making for a very sharp knife. The gut opener is a hollowgrind and unfurtunately well known to be tricky to sharpen. However from personal experience I can say that you don’t have to do it very often… about once every ten mooses 🙂
For sharpening the gut opener we have developed a special sharpener called Dianova Flex.
To sharpen the knife blade I usually carry the Military Badge in my leg pocket.
